M3U vs Xtream login: which should you use?

Learn the difference between an M3U playlist, Xtream-compatible login and a portal, and choose the format supported by your player.

These are ways of connecting a player to a service. They are not quality levels, and choosing one does not turn an HD source into 4K. Use the format that both your player and assigned server support.

01

M3U is a playlist address

An M3U URL tells the player where to load the channel list. It may include your credentials within the address. Some players ask for an EPG URL separately. Paste the full address without line breaks and never share it in a public screenshot or troubleshooting forum.

02

Xtream-compatible login separates the fields

This method typically uses a server URL, username and password. Dedicated players can organise live TV, films and series into separate libraries using the account response. Feature availability still depends on the server and player; the login label alone does not guarantee catch-up.

03

Portal activation is a different workflow

A portal may associate access with a specific device identifier. Do not substitute an M3U address into a portal field or an account URL into an EPG field. If your player rejects the details, capture the field labels and error message while hiding private information, then ask support to identify the mismatch.

Before you finish

  • Player supports the format
  • Server protocol and port preserved
  • No spaces or line breaks
  • Private credentials hidden
Interfaces and app availability can vary by model, software version and region. Ask support for instructions that match your exact device.
